Brazilian Carnival

For students to appreciate the traditions and customs of different country/countries, a Brazilian Carnival was held at TIHS in September, 2013, where the students of class III participated in various activities. The students of class III learnt about different facts of Brazil through various activities which were conducted to make the event a unique and memorable one. Students participated in all the activities with great fervor and enthusiasm.

The first day was dedicated to a PPT made on Brazil which gave relevant information about the country. Students learnt about its capital, official language, the origin of the name Brazil, the Amazon River, the famous Brazilian Carnival, national game football, their legend Pele and much more. A mask making activity was organized and conducted on day 2 wherein the students emblazoned eye masks with embellishments. They wore those masks on Day 5 of the carnival. On Day 3, a tableau display was held. A float was decorated and students danced around the float, getting a whiff of the floats at the carnival. On Day 4, a worksheet activity was conducted. The students had to answer questions based on the Presentations on Day 1 and the activities conducted on Day 2 and Day 3.  Day 5 was all about music and dance. Students came dressed in bright and colorful outfits, and adorned the beautiful eye masks prepared by them on Day 2 of the extravaganza. The students got a glimpse of the Brazilian Carnival when they themselves became a part of it thousands of miles away. Students enjoyed the carnival immensely.

The students were enlightened and appreciated the traditional and cultural differences between both the countries. They even appreciated the richness of diversity. It helped the students to develop their inter personal skill.

INTERNATIONAL DANCES

‘Dancing is silent poetry; it’s like dreaming with your feet.’

Dance has certainly been an important part of any ceremony, ritual, celebration and entertainment. It helps to exercise and socialize and hence keeps one fit, mentally active and healthy. Dance is also an important part of one’s culture, having its own distinctive type. With the aim of bringing many cultures and traditions on one platform, the school hosted an Inter school/Inter House International Dance Competition in the school premises in the month of August. Students dressed in beautiful, bright and colourful attires performed with a lot of poise, very graceful dances of different countries, to help promote the socialization skills and bringing forth the culture of those countries. Overall the entire show was a grand success as every student went back with memories of a different art form.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL SONG

“Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories.”

Music provides a unique opportunity for literacy preparation, whether the children are singing, playing, or listening, music exercises their aural discrimination. Plato once said that music “is a more potent instrument than any other for education”. Recent research has found that music uses both sides of the brain, a fact that makes it valuable in all areas of development. Music affects the growth of a child’s brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually. So to keep our students at par academically & socially, an Interschool/Interhouse International Song Competition was organized in the school premises in the month of July. Many schools participated in the same and sang beautiful songs in different foreign languages make the entire environment melodious.
